What's the area like?

Bình Thạnh sits just northeast of District 1 along the Saigon River. It mixes a new-town side, with Vietnam's tallest building Landmark 81 and the big Vinhomes Central Park complex, and old alley neighborhoods around Bà Chiểu Market.

New ward names: from 1 July 2025 districts (quận) were abolished, and old Bình Thạnh District was split into 5 phường.

Old names still work: in daily life people still use old names like 'Bình Thạnh' or 'Phường 22'. Old addresses are mostly understood.
Main streets: Điện Biên Phủ, Xô Viết Nghệ Tĩnh, Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh, Đinh Bộ Lĩnh, Phan Đăng Lưu, Bạch Đằng
Vibe: close to District 1 and on the way to District 2 (Thảo Điền), so lots of office workers, students and foreigners live here.

Local tips & warnings

The Hàng Xanh roundabout (vòng xoay Hàng Xanh) and Điện Biên Phủ jam badly at rush hour (7–9, 17–19). To get to District 1, the metro is faster.
Addresses have changed. E.g. Landmark 81 is '720A Điện Biên Phủ, phường Thạnh Mỹ Tây'. If your Grab driver is confused, also give the old name 'Phường 22, Bình Thạnh'.
In the rainy season (roughly May–November), riverside roads like Nguyễn Hữu Cảnh often flood after rain. GrabCar is easier on rainy days.
At Bà Chiểu Market, bargaining is standard. When it's crowded, wear your phone and wallet in front.

Lăng Ông Bà Chiểu (Lê Văn Duyệt Shrine)
