What's the area like?

Gò Vấp is a very densely populated residential area just north of Tân Sơn Nhất Airport. With universities nearby (e.g. the Industrial University), there are lots of students and young workers, and every alley (hẻm) is packed with small eateries, cafés and rooms for rent. Rent and prices are lower than in the center.

New ward names: from 1 July 2025 districts (quận) were abolished, and the 12 wards of old Gò Vấp were merged into 6 phường.

Local tips & warnings

Gò Vấp's alleys (hẻm) are narrow and maze-like. Always add the alley number (hẻm số) and a nearby shop or landmark to your Grab and delivery notes.
In the rainy season (roughly May–November), low roads flood quickly in heavy rain. On rainy days GrabCar is easier; on a motorbike, avoid deep water.
Phan Văn Trị · Quang Trung · Nguyễn Kiệm get very jammed at evening rush hour. Supermarkets are quiet on weekday daytimes.
Korean groceries are available at Emart (366 Phan Văn Trị) and Lotte Mart (242 Nguyễn Văn Lượng).
At markets, wear your bag and phone in front, and ask the price first before bargaining.
Emergency numbers: ambulance 115 · police 113. The nearest big hospital is Military Hospital 175 (786 Nguyễn Kiệm, 24-hour emergency).

Gia Định Park (Công viên Gia Định)

A big park with over 1,000 trees, lawns, a small lake and a playground for ages 3–15; open 04:00–22:00.

A 2025 source says motorbike parking is 5,000 VND.

Miếu Nổi (Floating Shrine · Phù Châu miếu)

A 300-plus-year-old shrine on a tiny island in the Vàm Thuật river, called the 'floating shrine' because it seems to float on the water.

A big three-floor store: restaurants and cafés on 1F, hypermarket on 2F (with a Korean products corner), Lotte Cinema on 3F.

Some sources give the supermarket address as 18 Phan Văn Trị (same complex). Hours also vary by source: 07:30–22:00/22:30.

A large military hospital open to civilians, with a 24-hour emergency department. Outpatients weekdays 07:00–11:30, 13:30–16:30; Saturday mornings are fee-paying service clinics only.

The side gate on Nguyễn Thái Sơn is mainly for emergency and service-clinic patients. A source mentions an international department (Khoa quốc tế), but how foreigners are seen needs checking.
