What's the area like?

Together with District 5, District 6 forms the western side of the Chợ Lớn Chinatown. It centers on the nearly century-old Bình Tây Market (Chợ Bình Tây), surrounded by wholesalers, Chinese temples and old residential streets.

New ward names: since 1 July 2025 districts (quận) no longer exist, and former District 6 became 4 phường.

- phường Bình Phú — former Wards 10 and 11 + part of former Ward 16, District 8 (Bình Phú Park side)

Old names still work: in daily life people still often say Quận 6 (District 6), and Grab drivers all understand 'Quận 6'.
Main streets: Hậu Giang, Kinh Dương Vương (toward Miền Tây Bus Station), Hồng Bàng, Tháp Mười, Bà Hom, and Võ Văn Kiệt Boulevard to the south
Vibe: few tourist sights, but cheap prices and a strong local, everyday feel. Phú Lâm in the west is a quiet residential area.

Local tips & warnings

Around Bình Tây Market there are lots of cargo motorbikes and carts. Go early in the morning when the market is less crowded and cooler.
At the market, ask 'bán sao?' (how much?), compare a few stalls, then bargain. Buying single items can get you a higher price.
The Phú Lâm roundabout (vòng xoay Phú Lâm) and Kinh Dương Vương Boulevard jam badly at rush hour. Allow plenty of time when heading to Miền Tây Bus Station.
At bus stations, don't follow touts offering cheap rides. Buy tickets at the official counter or through an app.
When giving an address, say both 'Quận 6' and the new name 'phường Bình Tây / Bình Tiên / Bình Phú / Phú Lâm' to be sure.

Công viên Phú Lâm (Phú Lâm Park)

A park of about 60,000 m² with a large lake, full of locals exercising morning and evening. Free entry.

It's next to the Phú Lâm roundabout, so traffic noise is loud. Listed hours are 03:00–23:00.

The former District 6 Hospital. During the 2025 reorganization, a proposal was made to rename it 'Bệnh viện Bình Phú'.

We couldn't confirm the new name and address from official sources (to be verified). For serious illness, people go to Chợ Rẫy Hospital in District 5.

Getting around

Bến xe Miền Tây (Miền Tây Bus Station)

Long-distance bus station · An Lạc, former Bình Tân District (west of Phú Lâm, District 6)

Long-distance buses leave for the Mekong Delta (Cần Thơ, Cà Mau, etc.) as well as Đà Lạt and Nha Trang. From District 6, head west along Kinh Dương Vương Boulevard.

The main entrance is Gate 2 on Kinh Dương Vương. Tickets sell out before Tết and long holidays, so book ahead by app or phone.
